A Note in Celebration of Veteran’s Day

It’s a tricky thing. Making posts on a corporate account about things as important as honoring Veteran’s Day. Paying tribute is an obvious decision, but it’s a fine line to walk to make sure it’s a genuine gesture and not an exercise in self-promotion or a flippant checking of a box.

Amongst our team, we have veterans and active reserve members. Nettxio has greatly benefited from the values, dedication and unique perspectives military service instilled in them. We have customers who feel more like friends who have served or have a familiar history deeply rooted in service. It can feel way too small to just say “Thank you”.

As I looked today for just the right image to convey gratitude, I kept thinking about a photo and a moment with my daughter many years ago. In a field of 2,015 American flags staked to honor Veteran’s Day. It was one of those brisk November days in Chicago where the sun can trick you into thinking it’s warm. It wasn’t. But the display was stunningly breathtaking. I remember looking at her, so tiny, and being surprised by the rush of extreme gratitude. To be here. To be an American. To feel confident in the safety and security of my family. For those willing to put themselves at great risk to give us all that gift.

So, maybe a strange image to share. An almost decades-old personal photo taken on a who-even-knows-what-version of an iPhone. But, a stock image felt insufficient.

We go into this weekend sending a whole-hearted thank you to all who have served and sacrificed. In honor, we would like to share a few of our favorite organizations:

Semper Fi & America’s Fund – This Fund is dedicated to providing immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to our nation’s critically wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and military families.

McCain Institute – Champions character-driven leadership and civic engagement in the U.S. and globally. Inspired by the legacy of Senator John McCain, they work tirelessly to advance security, economic opportunity, freedom and human dignity.

One World Strong Foundation – Founded by Dave Fortier, a survivor of the Boston Marathon, this organization is dedicated to forming a global community of survivors affected by terrorism, hate crimes or traumatic events. They provide a platform for connection and support that’s inspired by Dave’s personal experience with the Semper Fi Fund.

Veteran Flags by Vets – We found this one thanks to one of our team members, U.S. Air Force veteran Chris Corey. Started by a wounded U.S. Air Force veteran, this organization creates handcrafted wooden flags to gift to veterans.
